Author | : | Bisma Shah,Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Butt |
Abstract | : |
The mergers and acquisitions have acquired a prominent position in the corporate
sector throughout the world. Mergers and acquisitions (M&A's) is one of the important
strategies used by the corporate entities to attain growth and diversification,
to enjoy operational synergy and to conquer new markets. The global integration
has further forced the business organizations to follow the policy of mergers and
acquisitions to survive and grow. The Indian corporate sector has also shown keen
interest in this new business strategy. There has been an increase in both the number
and size of mergers and acquisitions in the Indian corporate sector. However, in
all the years, banking sector has emerged as one of the most opportunistic sectors
in the sense that good number of M&A's have taken place in this sector. The merger
of Centurion Bank and Bank of Punjab is regarded as one of the important merger
deals in the Indian corporate sector. Keeping in view the size and significance
of this merger, an effort has been made to assess the operating, financial performance
and shareholders' wealth of this merger. To test the hypotheses that the merger
has a positive impact on the operating and financial performance as well as on the
shareholders wealth of both the financial institutions, financial ratios and relevant
statistical tools have been used. The study is mainly based on the secondary data
which has been collected from the annual reports available on various official websites.
The study has revealed an insignificant positive impact on the shareholders wealth
as well as on the operating & financial performance of the merging entity. Keywords:

Author | : | Dr. (Mrs) Babita Kumar ,Mrs Gagandeep Banga,Ms. Gurinderjeet Kaur |
Abstract | : |
The present paper analyses the project management maturity, project success, project
challenges and the association between project management maturity and project success
in IT industry . The survey conducted from large, medium and small firms combined
the nine knowledge areas of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)
with a Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM). Results indicate that, integration,
cost and communication processes are matured as they are at level 4 in maturity
which depicts that processes are managed and regularly measured. Scope, time, quality
and procurement processes indicated less maturity as compared to other processes.
Least maturity was found in HR and risk management among nine knowledge core areas.
Key areas that required special attention are project control processes, informal
communication and risk management. Lack of communication between project team members,
lack of executive support, unclear business objectives, incorrect auditing of processes,
inappropriate formal methodologies and others factors contributed to project being
challenged. Quadruple constraint, system use and user satisfaction are important
factor for project success. Project management maturity and project success were
found to be highly correlated. Keywords: Project management, Maturity, Project success,

Name | : | Work-Life Balance and Career Breaks of Working Women |
Author | : | Dr. Anjali Gokhru ,Nidhi Desai |
Abstract | : |
Today majority of the educated Indian women are allowed to work; still their careers
are bound by many problems which they face as they are expected to fulfill dual
responsibilities at the workplace and home. Some of which are break in career at
various stages of life, gender discrimination in pay and promotional opportunities,
and restriction from home to travel for work abroad or even out of town. Even the
professional women (doctors, lawyers, MDs, etc.) and women entrepreneurs do have
to face these boundations of time as they too have responsibilities back at home.
The difficulty doubles for working women who have small children. This creates stress
and work pressure in them as they are able to concentrate less on their work which
eventually affects their productivity. As a result, most of the times women are
perceived to be less competent although that might be not be the case each time.
Consequently even those women, who are performing well, sometimes remain unnoticed
due to their tag of being a mother or a wife with lot of household responsibilities.Through
our paper, we have tried to find out how women involved in various occupations and
belonging to different social backgrounds manage their household and childcare responsibility
to progress in their career. Our sample includes self-employed women, women doing
service and also those women who are temporarily unemployed due to career break.
From our survey we aim to study the challenges that working women have to face in
their attempt to strike a balance between work and family and investigate how often
the imbalance between work and family leads to a career break for women. Our study
also includes a discussion on the various strategies adopted by working women to
balance their household/childcare responsibilities with job responsibilities. Keywords:

Author | : | Dr. Suman Kalyan Chaudhury,Mr. Pramath Nath Acharya |
Abstract | : |
Working capital management is important in financial management due to the fact
that it plays an essential role in keeping the wheels of a business enterprises
running. The business will not be able to carry on day to day activities without
the availability of adequate working capital. In a common way, managing of current
assets and current liability is called the Working Capital management. In any business
firm, whether it is trading or manufacturing business, the relevance of working
capital can never be overemphasised. Shortage of funds for working capital has caused
many businesses to fail and in many cases has retarded their growth. Lack of efficient
and effective utilisation of working capital leads to earn low rate of return on
capital employed or even compel sustain losses. In other words, the efficiency of
a business enterprise depends largely on its ability to manage its working capital.
However the requirement of working capital varies from firm to firm. It is depending
upon the nature of the business like production policies, market conditions, seasonality
of operations, conditions of supplies etc. For manufacturing companies, working
capital creates challenges because supplier and production expenses frequently require
payment several months before goods are sold to customers. Aluminium companies,
as a part of manufacturing sector, are required to give emphasis in this regard.
In this context, it is an effort to accesses the practice of working capital management
in Nalco and Hindalco through some hypothesis testing. In this paper, the authors'
try to analyse the working capital management practices of NALCO and HINDALCO which
would facilitate in maximizing the firm's value and the wealth of the shareholders.

Abstract | : |
With intense competition and a highly volatile economic environment, business organizations
are currently standing at crossroads of their journey where only the fittest and
the fastest will be able to survive. Retail industry in India currently is one of
the most profitable in terms of the revenues that it earns and the significant growth
that it portrays. The size of the domestic market, particularly the burgeoning middle
class of over 350 million people, is providing the desired growth impetus to the
retail industry. Young consumer market with over 65% of the population under the
age of 35 years is relatively well educated and economically active in fuelling
the growth of the Indian retail sector. The emergence of varied formats based on
specific needs of the Indian Consumer is a critical element in the growth of this
sector in India. The food and grocery format is the highest contributor to the retail
sector with the maximum contribution coming from traditional retailing, while penetration
of modern retail is highest in the clothing and fashion segment, at 23% of the growth.
From the traditional neighborhood stores, gradually, super markets, hyper markets,
department stores and specialty stores have emerged. The Indian consumer is spoilt
for choice and continues to be grossly pampered by retailers across all formats.
In this context a consumer's choice of format and shopping situation for purchasing
products becomes an important factor for these retailers. Moreover, a consumer's
basket size also influences his choice of store format. The purpose of this paper
is to assess the association between shopping trip pattern and a consumer's basket
size. Besides, several factors have also been identified which influence a customers'
choice for selecting a specific store format. The data thus collected was analyzed
using t – test at 5% level of significance and factor analysis was done to identify
the most sought after factors that determine consumers' choice of format for purchasing
grocery items. Keywords: Store format, Shopping trip pattern, Consumer's basket

Abstract | : |
The staffing schedule according to the objectives of the system and minimizing the
cost of production is among the most important factors in productivity. Manpower
planning as the means of ensuring the human resources needed to achieve the organization's
goals and its mathematical modeling is important for planners. Given that to solve
staffing timing issue is very time consuming, in this paper, genetic algorithm is
used to solve the proposed model. Therefore, many mathematical models have been
used to formulate the scheduling in organizations and through a variety of methods
have been tried to solve them. Considering the absence right for the personnel is
one of the advantages of the proposed model. Since the cost is regarded as damage,
the problem has changed to the cover mode. First, parameters and all restrictions
are included with respect to information of the problem and modeling is implemented;
then, the problem is solved with genetic algorithm. Finally, results of computations
obtained based on different evaluations about the personnel's number suggest that
in the given problem, 90 personnel can satisfy restrictions and reduce penalties
at the best. Keywords: Staff scheduling, genetic algorithm, work pattern, mathematical
