Author | : | Monika Soni , Dr. Shurveer S. Bhanawat |
Abstract | : |
With the increasing adverse effects of climate change, the companies are becoming
pro active and taking efforts and measures to mitigate the climate change. Moreover,
it is becoming vital for the companies to disclose their environmental performance
to the stakeholders. Investors are demanding the companies to go for climate change
related disclosure and more specifically about the carbon risk related disclosure
practices. Many Indian companies are doing this voluntary and supplying such information
to the carbon disclosure project (CDP) organization. Carbon disclosure project (CDP)
is an international, notfor- profit organization providing the only global system
for companies and cities to measure, disclose, manage and share vital environmental
information. CDP evaluates companies on the basis of their response to the climate
change questionnaire and ranks them as per their disclosure score. In 2013, CDP
sent the climate change questionnaire to 200 companies in India (based on market
capitalization). Out of which, 55 companies responded. The list of top 20 Indian
companies having high disclosure scores is furnished by the CDP. This paper analyzed
the sustainability report of all the top 20 companies in order to find out common
carbon risk disclosure factors. In order to bring the uniformity in the disclosure
practices, important carbon risk factors are identified and suggestion is made that
all information related to the identified factors should be mandatorily furnished
by top performing companies in India.

Name | : | Banking Awareness of The Residents in The Present Financial Inclusion ERA in Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu |
Author | : | Dr. S. Rajaswaminathan |
Abstract | : |
Reduction of poverty has been an essential objective of development policy since
the inception of planning in India. Poverty Eradication, Employment Generation Programmes
have been in operation since the post-independence of India, even though poverty
and social exclusion continue to dominate socio-economic and political discourse
in India. Financial Inclusion and Banking reforms attach vast significance to eradicate
the poverty across states and the rural-urban areas. Despite being one of the ten
fastest growing economies of the world, India is still home to one-third of the
world's poor. In developing economies like India, the banks have been playing a
major role as mobilisers of savings and allocators of credit for production and
investment. In case of population who are being poor and illiterate, their banking
awareness is supposed to be low due to their lack of knowledge of the financial
services offered by the banks and financial exclusion. Henceforth, this paper attempts
to identify the banking awareness of the residents in the present financial inclusion
era in Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu.

Name | : | A Comparative Evaluation of Financial Performance and Soundness of Selected Public and Private Life Insurers in India |
Author | : | Showket Ahmad Dar , Javaid Ahmad Bhat |
Abstract | : |
In recent times, the insurance industry in India has been going through a lot of
changes which appear to have increased the vulnerability of this sector. In particular,
the cross-holding of shares between banks and insurance companies and the close
business connection between the two industries increased the risk of contagion.
Further, the need to achieve competitive returns induced insurers to invest in risky
assets which resulted in their further vulnerability to economic shocks. Therefore,
against the backdrop of high risky nature of this industry and the growing scepticism
regarding the working of companies in this sector, this paper evaluated the financial
performance and soundness of selected public and private life insurance companies.
In this paper a set of ratios have been presented and discussed to lend a hand in
the analysis of a life insurer's financial and statistical returns. Three parameters
taken from CARAMEL model have been used to analyse and evaluate the financial performance
and soundness. The three indicators are “Capital Adequacy”, “Earnings and Profitability”
and “Liquidity”. The study framed three hypotheses to achieve the key objectives.
Statistical results of the study reveal that there is statistically a significant
difference between capital adequacy, earnings and profitability and liquidity position
in selected public and private life insurers. The overall results reveal that the
capital adequacy level of selected private life insurers is far better than the
mean capital adequacy level of public life insurer. However, in terms of earnings
and profitability, the public life insurers have outperformed the private life insurers
during the period under review.

Author | : | Dr. N.K.Dashora , Sunil Kumar |
Abstract | : |
Recent upheaval in the crude oil price in international market has created renewed
interest in the data analysis. But even before this, the energy reports generated
internationally have squarely yelled about growing crude oil consumption in India
and China. India's share of global demand rises to 8% in 2035, accounting for the
second largest share of the BRIC countries with China at 26%, Russia 5%, and Brazil
3%.The object of this paper is to find out whether the price changes and income
changes have the same impact on the elasticity of consumption as shown in the theory
of elasticity of demand. The yearly data used are from 1985 to 2013.The log value
of consumption, income and the adjusted inflation price gives the best results.
The coefficient values have been estimated for price and income elasticity.

Name | : | An Empirical Analysis of Price Discovery in Spot and Futures Market of Gold in India |
Author | : | Joshy. K.J , Ganesh L |
Abstract | : |
The study aims at analyzing the price discovery process of gold in Indian commodity
market. It also examines the long run dynamic relationship between spot and futures
markets and looks into the volatility impact of futures price on spot price as well
as the volatility impact of spot price on futures price. The study is based on the
secondary data obtained from the official website of NCDEX during 2008 to 2012.
In order to test the hypotheses different econometric tools are employed. The Johansen
co-integration reveals the dynamic relationship between spot and futures markets.
The results of VECM indicate that the spot market is dominant in the price discovery
process. It implies the information efficiency of spot market. The findings of GARCH
model highlight the significant price volatility impact of both futures and spot
market prices on the returns. The findings are very significant for investors, marketers
and policy makers since it provides a reliable forecast of spot prices in the future
which allow them to effectively manage their risks in the production and marketing
process. The unprecedented uptrend and high volatility in the gold prices in recent
years has very significant social implications too.

Author | : | Dr. M. Muniraju , Ganesh S.R |
Abstract | : |
Globalization has laid down a way for all the countries to adopt a single set of
accounting standards. Recent years have seen major changes in financial reporting
worldwide under which the most obvious is the continuing adoption of IFRS worldwide.
More than 130 countries have converged or recognized the policy of convergence with
the IFRS. An upcoming economy on world economic map, India, too, decided to converge
to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). In India, ICAI has decided
to adopt the IFRS by April 2011 but still there is no growth in the implementation

was framed to take views of 109 chartered accountants on the perception towards
the implementation of IFRS in India. The researcher found the various reasons for
the differences for the changes in the key ratios between IGAAP and IFRS and lot
of positive response from the chartered accountants towards the implementation process.

Name | : | Determinants of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): Evidence from Bangladesh |
Author | : | Md. Qamruzzaman |
Abstract | : |
The aim of this paper is to assess the relative importance of trade and foreign
exchange liberalization, infrastructure availability and economic and political
stability in Bangladesh with respect to FDI. The analysis is conducted for total
FDI and for FDI in manufacturing for period 2000-2013. The results show that trade
and foreign exchange liberalization, infrastructure availability and sound economic
and political conditions increase FDI inflows. Their effects are much higher for
FDI in the manufacturing sector than for total FDI. This result is robust to alternative
indicators of trade and foreign exchange liberalization, and to change in the specification.
The message to Bangladesh's policy makers is twofold. First, efforts toward trade
and foreign exchange liberalization should be initiated or further increased in
order to make the region attractive to foreign investors. Second improvements in
other aspects of the investment climate are important complements to liberalization
and result in additional and sensitive increase of FDI inflows.
