Study of Relationship between Emotional
Intelligence and Leadership Practices
Author
:
Dr. Ritu Gandhi Arora
Abstract
:
Emotions are the vital forces for the values and principles each one of us lives
for and they drive one's focus, action and its speed. “Intelligence” is understood
as “the ability to learn and understand from experience or to respond successfully
to new experiences, the ability to acquire and retain knowledge”. The concept of
emotional intelligence is developed based upon a set of competencies like self awareness,
self confidence and self control, commitment and integrity, the ability to communicate
the influence, to initiate and accept change- these competencies are highly recognized
in today's competitive market. Successful leadership today is about how well leaders
manage themselves and how well they manage others. Successful leadership is not
about intellectual ability or technical expertise; it is about personal characteristics
and human qualities that include empathy and compassion, flexibility, and influence.
Today's leaders must have the ability and flexibility to adapt to an ever-changing
workforce, and it's these human abilities that set apart successful leaders. Emotional
intelligence has become as important as, if not more important than, intellectual
quotient (IQ) and cognitive abilities. Today, successful leaders are defined by
inspiring and motivating others, promoting a positive work environment, perceiving
and understanding emotions, and fostering an organizational climate in which people
turn challenging opportunities into successes.
This study is an attempt to examine the level of emotional intelligence through
different dimensions of EI on the middle level managers. The data was collected
from 150 middle level managers from banks using standardized scale i.e. Bhattacharya
Instrument on Emotional Intelligence. Total of 8 banks from Delhi and NCR were targeted.
The main objective of the research was to study the level of emotional intelligence
with respect to gender and age of the respondents and explore the relationship between
different factors of emotional intelligence. The results revealed that all factors
of emotional intelligence were significantly correlated to each other except interpersonal
conflict management. Level of emotional intelligence does not differ across gender
and age of the leaders. The findings of the study strongly recommend improvement
in developing leaders' capacity for empathy. If one lacks empathy, they can cut
themselves off at the knees in many kinds of negotiations at the time of conflict
resolution. This study supports the position that emotional stability and emotional
intelligence are important factors for organizational leadership.

Varun Sarda, Dr Yamini Karmarkar, Neha Lakhotia
Abstract
:
Charting techniques are used by analysts to predict the movements of prices in Financial
Markets. However, most of them are based on the gradual movements of prices though
the uncertain environment of today calls for an analysis of the rapid movements.
This paper examines Kagi Charting technique to analyze the Crashes of Indian stock
markets based on Qualitative parameter of Predictive Efficiency. The period of study
is from 1997 to 2011. A crash is defined as a drop of 25% or above from the peak
value of Sensex within a duration of 60 days from the peak. The results of the study
show that Kagi Charts are able to predict the crash with 100% predictive efficiency
for one of the three crashes analyzed in the study.

and Marketing of Indian Carpet Industry: A BCG Matrix Approach
Author
:
Priyanka Gite, Chinmoy Kumar Roy
Abstract
:
Carpet weaving is a traditional and well established industry in India. Exquisite
Indian carpets are not only part of luxurious lifestyles in modern times but also
reflect timeless amalgamation of nature, culture and art. Today, the exquisite masterpieces
created by over 3 million Indian carpet weavers and craftsmen continue to enchant
the consumers the world over. This industry plays a vital role in employment and
income generation as well as foreign exchange earnings. Since, this industry is
primarily rural based, it also leads to balanced regional growth. It is therefore
of prime concern to evaluate its export performance, identify the promising export
markets and develop certain export marketing strategies for the overall prosperity
of this industry.
Strategic business models are widely used in corporate world these days to analyse
the problems and prospects of any business situation. BCG (Boston Consulting Group)
matrix is one among the widely used model which helps in segmenting the product
portfolio or markets in four groups viz. Star, Cash cow, Dog and Problem child (or
Question mark).
For the present study, BCG matrix has been applied to identify the export markets
for the Indian carpet industry and classify them in four aforesaid segments. From
about 200 countries of carpet export destinations, top 30 countries with highest
average export values for last 10 years (2003-04 to 2012-13) has been considered.
Average market growth rate and relative market share, calculated from export data
of 5 years ranging from 2008-09 to 2012-13, has become the base for the application
of this matrix. USA, UK, UAE, Turkey and Australia have emerged as the Star markets;
Belgium, Canada, France, Germany and Italy as the Cash cow markets; Austria, Greece,
Spain, etc. as the Dog markets; and Brazil, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. as the Problem
child markets. Appropriate export marketing strategies have also been suggested
apart from analysis of export performance of carpet industry.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the determinants of dividend policy (DP)of
IT sector in India. Out of 84 firms listed in National stock exchange (NSE) 20 firms
were considered for analysis. DP of corporate sector is widely researched topic
in finance however it remains a debatable issue to decide what factors determine
the DP. The present paper is an attempt to empirically analyze the determinants
of DP of Information Technology (IT) Sector in India. For this purpose, various
factors affecting DP such as price earnings ratio (PER), dividend payout ratio (DPR),
debt equity ratio (DER), cash from operation (CFO), earnings (ERN), corporate tax(CT),earnings
per share(EPS) and Beta (SYSETAMATICRISK) are considered for analysis. The empirical
evidence from the study reveals that PER, DER has significant impact on EPS and
also good predictors of dividend payout in IT sector. Ordinary least square models
are used to estimate the impact of PER, DPR, DER, CFO, ERN, CT, EPS and β (SR) on
the DP. The DP of overall IT sector is strongly influenced by DPR, DER, EPS, CFO,
β (SR) and CT, which reveals that the DP of IT sector is significantly influenced
by the selected financial variables during the period of the study. The overall
regression analysis shows that the determinants of DP is significantly and positively
influenced by the PER, DER and EPS.

Hurdles in Achieving Women Empowerment
Author
:
Preeti Dhuppar (Darak),Prof. K. C. Sodani
Abstract
:
Generally speaking the women of India are relatively disempowered and they enjoy
somewhat lower status than that of men. In spite of so many efforts undertaken by
government and NGOs the picture at present is not satisfactory. Mere access to education
and employment can only help in the process of empowerment. These are the tools
or the enabling factors through which the process gets speeded up. However, achievement
towards this goal depends more on attitude. Unless the attitude towards the acceptance
of unequal gender role by the society and even the women themselves changed women
cannot grab the opportunity provided to them through constitutional provision, law
etc. Till then we cannot say that women are empowered in India in its real sense.
The present paper is an attempt to analyze the status of women empowerment in Udaipur
City using various indicators based on data from primary sources. The study reveals
that women of Udaipur city are relatively disempowered and they enjoy somewhat lower
status than that of men in spite of many efforts undertaken by the government. Gender
gap exists regarding access to education and employment. Household decision making
power and freedom of movement of women vary considerably with their age, education
and employment status. It is found that acceptance of unequal gender norms by women
are still prevailing in the society. The study concludes by an observation that
access to education and employment are only the enabling factors to empowerment,
achievement towards the goal, however, depends largely on the attitude of the people
towards gender equality. Various indicators of women empowerment are analyzed using
the data from various sources while discussing women's present status in India.
The main emphasis is given to the indicators like women's household decision making
power, financial autonomy, freedom of movement, women's acceptance of unequal gender
roles, and exposure to media, and access to education, women's experience of hurdles
in achieving women empowerment.
While studying women's access to education and employment it is found that gender
gap exist in both the situations. Women's exposure to media is also less relative
to men. This is because most of the women lack desired level of financial autonomy,
literacy, strong personality, own decision making capacity, family support etc.
Thus we see that these mutually interdependent factors reinforce each other and
put women in a disadvantageous position relative to men. Various constraints in
achieving the desired level of empowerment are also identified. Important among
them are poverty, social norms and family structure, lack of awareness about legal
and constitutional provision etc.
This research paper is based on hurdles in achieving the women empowerment .My paper
is focused on hurdles in the empowerment of housewives (sample size of 100 housewives)
i.e. who are not busy with any profession .There are some hurdles in empowerment
for working women also but I took up the sample of 100 housewives to emphasis only
on the above mentioned matter. During the interaction I found that there are many
hurdles in women empowerment like education, family members support, lack of knowledge
and lack of awareness and self confidence etc .I also came to notice that most of
the women are not considering hurdles as a permanent in real life .Their views are
that if mutual consents are in agreeable conditions the hurdle can be removed and
this compromising can make them very empowered. During the interaction with women
I came to know that they are having successful story of the following in their mind
like Aishvarya Rai Bacchan ,Kiran Bedi, Indira Gandhi,Mother Taresa, Indira Nui
, Chandra Kochar etc and they want to become like them. The facts and figures of
this paper shall be presented in the seminar.

Consumer Behavior refers to the study of buying tendencies of consumers. It is the
study of individuals, groups, or organizations and the processes they use to select,
use, and dispose of goods or services to satisfy their needs and wants. It is really
important for marketers to understand what prompts a consumer to purchase a particular
product and what stops him from buying.
Lay's is the market leader in the potato chips product category. In this paper an
attempt has been made to study the various factors which affect the consumers while
theypurchase branded potato chips Lay's.
