Name : Non Performing Assets: A Study of Public, Private & Foreign Sector Banks in India
 Author : Dr. Poonam Mahajan
 Abstract :
The banking industry in India has been witnessing a series of revolutionary changes and noteworthy transformation since 1991 after introduction of LPG policy and new economic and financial sector reforms. The process of Liberalization aimed to free banks from too much of regulations. The focus was on self-regulation. Self-regulation requires prudential norms to be laid down. On the eve of economic reforms in 1991, it was recognized that the banks were burdened with huge amount of Non-Performing assets (NPA's), which were not revealed in the balance sheets. The banks had gone very weak. Balance sheets were hiding more than what they revealed. After the first nationalization of Banks in 1969, certain tendencies emerged in the banks that lead to the emergence of NPAs.

Name : An Empirical Study on Export Financing (Awareness, Impact and Satisfaction) among Handicraft Export Firms in India
Author : Balraj Saini , Raghuveer Singh Rajpurohit
 Abstract :
The present paper is empirical in nature and studies the Export Financing (Awareness, Impact and Satisfaction) among Handicraft Export Firms in India. The study finds out whether the handicraft exporting firms are aware about the export finance and how many are using export finance? This paper further explores the effectiveness of the export finance in increasing the exports by finding the correlation between the increase in export sales just after getting the finance and regular increase in export finance in five consecutive years; satisfaction level of the firm with the institution providing export finance. Other parameters which have been found out in the study are the reasons for taking finance from a particular bank and what are the most important aspects for all the firms for choosing a bank for export finance? Firms with turnover less than 1 Crore do not use export finance. This could be explained with the fact that as their turnover is low, they get smaller orders for which they have their own capital and also for smaller orders, buyers do not mind giving advance. Majority of the firms availing the export finance use Pre-shipment only followed by both Pre-shipment as well as Post Shipment Finance and that too in Indian Rupees. The export sales increase just after the year export finance is availed. There is a very high degree positive correlation between the Export Finance and Export Sales. Firms availing Export Finance are satisfied with their institution providing Finance and the most satisfying factor is the behaviour of the staff. Major data has been collected with the help of questionnaire using a five point likert scale. The tools for data analysis are – mean standard deviation, chi-square and correlation.

This paper initially highlights the past works on women empowerment through SHGs in India and Assam and then tries to answer the following research questions - What is the present socio-economic of the Scheduled Caste women SHGs? What is the operating mechanism of the credit delivery model of SHGs? What is the rate of return of their monthly savings for each of the SHG members? How the capital formulation takes place in an SHG? What is the growth rate of capital base of the SHGs? What are the dynamics of the underlying SHG business model? What has been the contribution of these SHG business models to women empowerment with respect to their income? What are the factors that determine the level of women empowerment as a result of participation in SHG business model? The present paper attempts to address these issues with respect to the marginalized communities in Brahmaputra Valley with special reference to the Scheduled Castes SHG Groups in the Sonitpur District of Assam. So, scheduled caste women SHGs' representation in the Gabharu Block is only 3.9% of the total number of SHGs operating in the Gabharu Block. Interestingly the study found that the average rate of return for each of the SHG members against their monthly savings is found out to be approximately 49.9% per annum. Thus the study found that the capital base of the SHGs for internal lending has increased by 400% in a five year period. T-test results revealed that there is a significant improvement in income level of the scheduled caste women after joining their respective SHGs which indicates that a sense of empowerment has been instilled among the sample scheduled caste women SHG members.
In its strategy for the upliftment of women and their empowerment, the government of Assam with the help of federal government has provided special consideration for women's self-help groups especially for those belonging to the Scheduled Caste. What is the present status of the Scheduled Caste women SHGs? What are the socio-economic characteristics of the scheduled caste women-based SHG business model of women empowerment? What is the operating mechanism of its credit delivery model? What is the rate of return of their monthly savings for each of the SHG members? How the capital formulation takes place in an SHG? What is the annual growth rate of capital base of the SHGs? What are the dynamics of the underlying SHG business model? What has been the contribution of these SHG business models to women empowerment with respect to their income? What are the factors that determine the level of women empowerment as a result of participation in SHG business model?
